Occurring on the centennial of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, the conference seeks to assess the historical significance of the Fire (and the ensuing response to the tragedy) with a particular interest in examining its present day legacy, including: the contemporary globalized sweatshop, the character and function of the contemporary sweatshops in the U.S., conditions of immigrant labor today in the U.S., working conditions for low-wage women workers, contemporary labor law violations and exclusions, labor standards and the state, etc.
